Xing Yi Chuan-(Form Intention Fist) is an Internal Style of Daoist origin. It involves the Twelve Animals and the Chinese Five Element theory in its application and drills. The style we practice is from Hubei province.
Hung Gar Kuen-(Hung Family Fist) comes from the Southern Shaolin temple and incorporates Five Animal Styles. The Tiger, Crane, Leopard, Snake and Dragon. Tiger and Crane are often practiced together. Coming from Shaolin, Hung Gar has roots in Buddhism.
What to expect:
-stance training (mostly isometric leg exercises)
-learning Xing Yi Chuan/Hung Gar Kuen Basics (learning upper body movements and timing them with lower body movements)
-animal style/movement exercises (5 animals of Hua Tuo, etc.)
-Qigong exercises (Qi Permeating Technique and Standing Post for example)
Attire:
-generally loose, comfortable clothes/ exercise clothes
-make sure to plan accordingly for weather as class is outside, though it should be under cover.
This class is outdoors to ensure low overhead. Fees are by donation and payment in effort and sweat is acceptable.
